Former Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic may face Nigeria at the 2016 Olympic Games,
with coach Hakan Ericson naming him to the provisional 35-man squad list for the competition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The experienced striker is one of seven players above the age limit that made the roster,
but it remains unclear if he will feature in the Games and will only make a decision after the ongoing European Championship.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic Zlatan Ibrahimovic The squad will be whittled down to 22 players in mid-July, with only three of those squad members to be born before 1993.
Along with Ibrahimovic, 34, the enlarged squad includes only two other players currently featuring at the European championships in France: defenders Victor Lindelof,
21, and Ludwig Augustinsson, 22. Coach Hakan Eriksson said the problem he faced was being able to find clubs ready to release players for the August 5-21 Olympics.
"It’s a headache, extremely complicated,” Eriksson said. “Some clubs say yes, others no, and others have not yet decided.”
In the initial phase we felt that those playing the Euros can’t double up, but I’ve had a talk with Zlatan,’
Ericson said, adding that it was not yet confirmed,if the striker would play in the Olympic tournament.
